David says ‘Raise Your Whisks’ this May

Great British Bake Off winner and registered nurse David Atherton is calling on nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants to come together and raise their whisks to raise money for colleagues in financial hardship.

David won Bake Off in 2019 and is supporting the Raise Your Whisks fundraising campaign which celebrates the International Day of the Midwife (5th May) and International Nurses’ Day (12th May). He’s inviting people to host a bake sale to raise vital money for Cavell Nurses’ Trust to support UK nursing and midwifery professionals.

We support nursing and midwifery staff across the UK who are facing a personal or financial crisis, often because of illness, disability, domestic abuse or the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. In the 12 months after the pandemic hit the UK, we saw a 140% increase in the number of nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants needing help, compared to the same period in 2019.

John Harrison our Fundraising Manager at Cavell:

“Fundraising to support those in hardship has never been more important than right now. The week of action between the 5th and 12th of May is the perfect moment to celebrate nursing and midwifery colleagues, whilst also ensuring those facing a crisis can receive the support they need.

“The impact of the pandemic will be felt by nursing professionals for months and years to come, but Raise Your Whisks fundraisers can help to ensure there’s a source of financial support for those in hardship.

“We have plenty of great ideas and support to help fundraisers host successful bake sales, whether they’re in–person events held in gardens or driveways, or a virtual bake-along over Zoom or Facebook Live. However you get involved, you will be baking a difference!”

Bake Off winner David has a message for anyone thinking of raising their whisks,

“Nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants have faced massive challenges this year in the face of the pandemic. Join me and show your support by hosting a bake sale between International Day of the Midwife (5th May) and International Nurses’ Day (12th May) to help raise vital money for those in financial hardship.”
