Valuing our nurses

"As the charity that gives money and support to nursing professionals in the UK who are facing financial hardship, Cavell Nurses’ Trust welcomes the debate on how we value our nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants (HCAs).

"Whilst salaries are important to all our lives, there are many reasons why nurses, midwives and HCAs suffer hardship and get in touch with Cavell Nurses’ Trust. Our recent survey of 2,200 nursing professionals shows that as well as being twice as likely as the general public to suffer financial hardship, nurses are three times more likely to face domestic abuse.

"Also, 1 in 5 nursing professionals say they have a physical or mental health condition that is expected to last a year or more.

"We want to see a society that cares for the people that cares for it. Cavell Nurses’ Trust offers ways that the public, community groups and companies can value nurses and show they really care.

"And with a 36% rise in enquiries for help in the last year we feel that now is the time for action."
