Thank you for your interest in our Scholarship Awards. Here are the answers to some of our most Frequently Asked Questions:
Applying For The Awards
How do I apply for an award?
All awards are submitted via online application forms. You can access these by visiting our Scholarship awards pages, picking a category and clicking on the 'Apply for this award' button
Who can apply for an award?
The applications are open only to students studying diploma courses, 2nd/3rd year undergraduates and postgraduate courses in Nursing and Midwifery in the United Kingdom.
The QARANC Reserve Award is open to clinical students who have completed Army Reserve Phase 1 training in the award year and must be a student who will qualify for one of the following military trades: Registered Nurse (Adult), Registered Nurse (Mental Health), Midwife, Healthcare Assistant
Can 1st year Nursing and Midwifery students apply for the awards?
Unfortunately, the awards are currently only open to 2nd and 3rd year students as this is mainly when elective placements take place.
Can post-graduate students apply for the awards?
The awards are open to post-graduate students as long as their course has the option of an elective placement or travel placement.
How many entries can I submit?
You can submit one application per category. You will only be shortlisted if you are able to meet the application criteria set for that category.
How should I fill in the application form so that I have the best chance of being successful?
- Our judges will be looking for entries which meet the application criteria for each category. Don't forget to give specific examples!
- Applications should be easy to read with good grammar and free from spelling errors.
- It may also be useful to outline any ideas you have for the placement should you win the prize money, what you hope to get out of it and how you hope to use what you have learnt in your future career.
Are there any Terms and Conditions for applying?
Yes, please read the Terms and Conditions before applying.
Travel Placement Funding Prize
What can I use the travel placement funding for if I am successful?
The prize fund attached to each award is used to take part in a travel placement which will enhance your studies and give you the opportunity to explore different nursing/midwifery practices and models.
How do I go about organising my travel placement?
Travel placements are arranged via university connections or independently by the student themselves. Your university department will be able to advise you on this.
Can the funding go towards a travel placement that I have been on already?
Unfortunately, we cannot retrospectively fund placements that have already taken place.
How your University can help
Do I need the support of my University to apply?
If you are shortlisted for an interview, we will need your tutor/referee to supply a supporting statement on University headed paper.
My University tutor is on leave/off sick. Who can I put as my referee?
A senior faculty staff member who can validate the information contained in your application may be put forward if your course tutor is unavailable.
How do I choose the most appropriate award category to apply for?
Read the entry and application criteria for each of the categories. Whichever category you feel most relates to you and your studies; this is the category you should apply for. Remember that if the judges feel that your application fits better into another category, they will move it to the most appropriate one.
Do all Award categories hold equal weight?
The Edith Cavell Leadership award carries a higher funding value for the travel placement than the other 4 awards categories.
